The Smart Play & Study Room is designed for interactive over-the-board chess enhanced by modern analysis tools. This space supports both in-person play and online competition, allowing members to face remote opponents while moves are displayed in real time on cloud-connected monitors.
Players may use the room for serious practice games, coached instruction, and guided analysis. Coaches or instructors may sit alongside players to review positions, explore variations, and analyze critical moments as games unfold.
The room’s flexible layout allows tables, clocks, and seating to be reconfigured—supporting traditional face-to-face play, hybrid online competition, or post-game analysis sessions. This adaptability makes the Smart Play & Study Room a bridge between classical over-the-board chess and modern training methods.
Room Configuration and Technology
The Smart Play & Study Room is equipped with high-quality digital chess boards connected to cloud-based analysis platforms. Moves played on physical boards are recorded in real time and displayed on dedicated monitors, allowing players, coaches, and observers to follow games, explore variations, and review positions live or after completion.
The room supports both in-person and online play. Members may compete against remote opponents while their physical moves are mirrored digitally, enabling seamless hybrid play and analysis. Equipment is designed to support serious study, instructional walkthroughs, and structured preparation.
All technology within the room is intended to enhance learning, precision, and analytical depth. Members are expected to use equipment responsibly and in accordance with the Foundation’s conduct and preservation standards.
Use Cases & Intended Activities

Typical uses of the room include:

The Smart Play & Study Room is a focused, technology-enabled environment intended for structured play, instruction, and analysis. Members are expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, respect for others, and care for shared equipment at all times.
Use of digital boards, monitors, and related technology must align with the room’s purpose of learning and preparation. Casual or disruptive behavior, misuse of equipment, or activity inconsistent with serious study is not permitted.
Furniture, boards, clocks, and seating may be reconfigured to support different formats of play and analysis, but must be returned to their standard configuration after use. All activity within the room is subject to Foundation oversight to preserve an effective and respectful study environment.
Conduct & Use
Use of the Smart Play & Study Room is subject to availability and coordinated scheduling to ensure fair access and effective use of the space.
Access to the room is available to Advanced Members and other approved participants by request. Eligibility is determined based on experience level, intended use, and alignment with the purpose of the space.
Coaches who are Advanced Members may request use of the room for structured instruction or training sessions. Scheduling and access decisions are coordinated by Foundation leadership to maintain the room’s purpose, condition, and long-term value.
