Support the Foundation
The Cleveland Chess Foundation exists to advance educational and charitable programming centered on disciplined chess study, cognitive development, and the formation of sound judgment and responsible action. Operated as a programmatic initiative of Greater Cleveland Chess Club & Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Foundation supports environments and activities aligned with the organization’s stated exempt purposes.
Financial support strengthens the Foundation’s ability to carry out and expand these activities responsibly and sustainably.
Advancing Educational & Charitable Activities
Contributions to the Foundation directly support activities described in the organization’s Form 1024 and related governing documents. These activities include:
Hosting rated and unrated chess tournaments that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic reasoning
Offering instructional workshops and training programs for children and adults
Supporting chess-based cognitive engagement programs for seniors
Developing online educational resources and hybrid instructional formats
Facilitating intergenerational chess initiatives that promote social interaction and lifelong learning
Collaborating with aligned nonprofit organizations to strengthen regional chess education efforts
Support helps ensure these programs remain mission-aligned, accessible, and sustainably managed.
Stewardship of Learning Environments
In addition to programming, contributions support the careful stewardship of physical and digital learning environments that make serious study possible.
This includes:
Preservation and cataloging of the Chess Library and archival materials
Maintenance of study, analysis, and instructional spaces
Responsible management of educational technology and research tools
Structured access models that balance openness, preservation, and long-term viability
These environments function as platforms through which charitable and educational activities are delivered.
Sustainability & Responsible Use of Funds
Funds contributed to the Foundation are used to advance its charitable and educational mission. This may include support for program delivery, facility operations related to mission-driven use, educational materials, community outreach, and collaboration with other 501(c)(3) organizations whose work aligns with the Foundation’s exempt purposes.
Revenue generated through memberships, program fees, or related activities supplements — but does not replace — charitable support. Together, these funding sources enable long-term stability and responsible growth.
All use of funds is subject to nonprofit governance oversight.
